With its 4,700 inhabitants, the town of Baccarat is located at the gateway to the Vosges, 50 km/31 miles away from Nancy.
In 1305, Henri, Lord of Blamont, built the "Tour des Voués". Perched on a rock overlooking the valley from a height of 5 to 6 metres (16-20 ft), this tower is a solid, roofed building with a length of 14.70 m/48 ft, a width of 11.70 m/38 ft and a height of 30 m/98 ft. Its 2.80 m/9 ft-thick walls are set in with windows and arrow slits.
Located behind the Town Hall, the City Park ("Parc municipal") comprises a rose garden and all sorts of children’s playground attractions. An arboretum created at the council’s instigation houses X species of trees.
